Toyota get early start at Jerez test

Toyota got the final test of 2006 off to an early start on Tuesday by circulating alone at the Spanish track in Jerez.

Ahead of its rivals’ arrival on Wednesday, the Japanese squad had the circuit to itself throughout Tuesday but is also limited to a three day programme.

The communal test will therefore conclude on Friday, with Toyota forced to go home on Thursday evening.

Toyota’s Franck Montagny and Kohei Hirate did the work at the wheel.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, 2007 racer Heikki Kovalainen marked his predecessor Fernando Alonso’s world championship triumph for Michelin by piloting a Renault single seater on the streets of Clermont-Ferrand.
