Toyota principal Tsutomu Tomita will leave his post at the end of June, the Japanese formula one team announced with a statement to the specialist press on Thursday.
Having succeeded Ove Andersson in 2003, 63-year-old Tomita will be replaced by Toyota Motorsport’s current Vice Chairman Tadashi Yamashina.
Toyota said it is “normal” for senior executives to return to Japan “following a long overseas assignment”. The statement also explained that Tomita will continue to work in a yet unspecified new role within the Toyota group of companies.
Tomita took control of Toyota’s Motorsport activities in 1996. His successor, Yamashina, joined Toyota Motorsport in 2006.
