Toyotas were not light – boss

Team boss John Howett says neither Toyota racer was running particularly light on fuel for the start of Sunday’s Japanese GP at Suzuka.

It was suggested prior to the race that Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli’s uncharacteristic second row pace indicated that the Japanese team had organised an artificially spectacular performance for its home event.

In fact, they pitted for fuel only a few laps before the Renaults.

Howett told Speed TV: “At four or five tracks this year we’ve had a similar good pace, even sometimes with a heavier fuel load and longer first stints than some other teams.

“I don’t think we were running that light.”
