Two DRS zones in Abu Dhabi

FIA announced localization of two DRS zones in this year`s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. There are small differences comparing with last year.

On a new Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, DRS is the best way, and sometimes the only way, to gain position but even with it drivers often have problems with overtaking slower cars. This Year one of DRS zones is longer that in 2011 what should help drivers.

Speed trap in first DRS zone, which will decide if driver is allowed to use Drag Reduction System to overtake followed driver is located 40 meters before corner number 7. 390 meters after it, on the longest straight on the track, drivers will “push the button”. This zone will be 80 meters longer than last year.

Speed trap to second DRS zone is located 50 meters after corner number 9. DRS activation line will be at the top of 10th corner. This zone is exactly the same as last year`s.

It will be fourth race in this year with two DRS zones, after Australia, Italy and India. Drivers are allowed to use DRS only when they are less than one second after followed driver and only after third lap of dry race. In practice sessions and qualifications they can use DRS without limitations.
