Murray Walker, “The Voice of Formula 1”, is set to make a return to the pinnacle of motor sport this coming season. Walker has signed up with the BBC to join the ‘Five Live’ team and will visit a number of races.
He started his commentating career in 1949 when he covered the Silverstone GP on BBC Radio. In 2001, more than fifty years later, the coiner of the phrase “Unless I’m very much mistaken – YES, I AM very much mistaken!” hung up his microphone and he has been sorely missed since then – despite his brief return to cover the 2005 GP Masters race at Kyalami race track in South Africa.
“Since I retired back in 2001 everywhere I go people ask me; ‘Do you miss it?’ ‘And I say, ‘Yes, of course I miss it’ If you enjoy doing something as much as I enjoyed it and you stop doing it, you’re going to miss it,” he told The Times.
We look forward to your return Murray!
