Valencia has moved another step closer to securing a grand prix.

It was reported last week that the Spanish port city was nearing a green light for a street race, to probably be branded the Mediterranean GP from 2009.

The Spanish news agency EFE now claims that the regional government’s president Francisco Camps on Wednesday met personally with Bernie Ecclestone at his London office in the UK.

A report said the long and detailed meeting was a “very important step” in closing the deal.

Camps said: “The intention is that we have a grand prix next year and also in 2009.”
