Van der Garde to test Aguri next week

Giedo van der Garde will next Tuesday make his debut for the Super Aguri team.

The 21-year-old Dutchman was signed by the Japanese squad last month to become its reserve and ‘Friday’ driver in 2007.

Van der Garde will attempt to qualify for his FIA Super License on 30 January in Valencia, according to media reports in Holland.

The license is mandatory for all drivers wishing to participate in official sessions of the F1 championship.

“We will try to do the 300 kilometres next week,” Giedo told Formule 1 RaceReport, “and if we cannot do it in one day then we can try again on Wednesday.”

It is expected that van der Garde’s Super License tests, under the observation of FIA officials, may be conducted at the wheel of the older 2006-spec car.
