The debut music album of former world champion and formula one driver Jacques Villeneuve will be released later this month.

Entitled ‘Private Paradise’, it will be available in Montreal from February 19, after the French-Canadian – who won F1’s drivers’ title in 1997 but in 2006 was dropped by the BMW-Sauber team – launched his first single on the weekend of last year’s Canadian GP.

A report on Villeneuve’s official website said the music is “acoustic-rock”, with nine songs in English and four in French.

“Six of the tracks are penned by Jacques himself,” the report added, “six by friends and the album also features one cover (song).”

Villeneuve, who recently signed with Peugeot to contest the famous Le Mans race later this year, said: “My career has been racing and I don’t plan on music being a career, so the plan is to keep it as a professional hobby.

“If I can reimburse my investment into recording the album then that would be good enough.”
