Max Mosley in Monaco played down speculation that Volkswagen and Ford could be considering entering F1 in the near future.
The rumours were sparked when the FIA’s proposals for new regulations in 2011 and beyond were also sent to the aforementioned carmakers, but not seasoned private teams like Williams.
“I don’t think there is any suggestion that either of those companies will come into formula one,” Mosley told reporters on Thursday.
The Briton said the governing body was simply involving other carmakers because their impartiality could be valuable for framing good road-relevant rules for grand prix racing.
Ford, which was last involved in F1 with Jaguar in 2004, and VW will also meet with the FIA and other manufacturers to discuss the proposals next month.
