Frank Williams has given team test driver Narain Karthikeyan the all-clear to make his debut in the ‘A1 GP’ category this weekend.
It emerged on Wednesday that the Indian driver, who turned 30 this week, will race for ‘A1 Team India’ at the New Zealand round in Taupo.
Alongside Kazuki Nakajima, he is an official test driver in formula one for Oxfordshire based Williams.
“Frank Williams has kindly agreed for me to race,” Karthikeyan, who made his grand prix debut for Jordan in 2005, confirmed.
“My formula one testing duties for Williams will be my top priority. I am very privileged to be in F1, but like all drivers I want to race fast cars as well as drive them.”
He replaces A1 Team India’s Armaan Ebrahim, who will also sit out the subsequent Australian event.
Karthikeyan admitted that a “good financial package” accompanies the seat.
