Wurz defends Williams engine switch

Alex Wurz has defended his formula one team chief’s decision to switch to Toyota power for the 2007 season and beyond.

The former test driver, who next year will return to the grand prix grid for the first time since 2000, has already collected some test kilometres with the Grove based team’s new engine supplier.

And while acknowledging the achievements of Williams’ former supplier, the independent outfit Cosworth, 32-year-old Wurz told Presse: “I think Frank made a good deal (with Toyota).”

Williams’ first test laps with Toyota power failed to set the time sheets alight.

But among reports that the new arrangement is better due to opportunities for marketing and the Japanese carmaker’s superior resources, Wurz suggested that the Toyota V8 is easier to install and ‘uses less fuel’.
