Wurz insists no ‘fear’ of Rosberg

Williams’ Alex Wurz says he does not ‘fear’ Nico Rosberg, his first full time Formula One teammate since he left the grand prix grid in 2000.

“I am not going to lock myself in a room so I can hide from Nico,” the long time test driver from Austria said.

Wurz, 32, spent five years as McLaren’s third driver after he was dropped by Benetton following three seasons as Giancarlo Fisichella’s teammate.

He moved to Grove based Williams as their ‘Friday’ and reserve pilot in 2006, and moves into the race cockpit alongside Rosberg next season to replace Mark Webber.

Referring to Rosberg, Wurz told motorline.cc: “I never had to hide from him so far, for example in the tests. But I must say that Nico is a really quick driver.

“We will see how it goes next year, but I do not think I will have a problem.”

In the interview, Wurz also enthused about Williams’ new engine partnership with Toyota, and revealed that the gearbox for 2007 has been jointly developed.

“It is not just a customer engine deal,” he insisted. “We have access to the resources of Toyota and will also exchange information.”
