Both Renault test drivers are eligible to race for the French squad in 2007.
A spokesman for the Enstone-based team confirmed that neither the experienced Ricardo Zonta, or Brazilian rookie Nelson Angelo Piquet, have been assigned the exclusive role of “reserve driver”.
“Both drivers are registered to fulfil the role,” the spokesman said.
21-year-old Piquet, the son of the triple world champion of the same name, finished behind Lewis Hamilton in the GP2 championship last year.
Countryman Zonta, meanwhile, is 30 and has raced or tested in formula one for Jordan, McLaren, BAR and Toyota.
