Carmakers, FIA, declare peace in F1

The war between Formula One’s governing body and disaffected car manufacturers is officially over, leading figures declared in Munich on Wednesday.

Max Mosley, who is present of the FIA, and BMW’s ‘GPMA’ bigwig Burkhard Goeschel, told correspondents for major European newspapers – including the Financial Times – that a deal principally about formerly disputed rules has finally been struck.

It follows the carmakers’ commercial deal struck last May with Bernie Ecclestone.

“We defined the objectives of road relevance, lower costs and social relevance and then we defined the rules,” Mosley and GPMA chairman Goeschel were jointly quoted as saying.

The agreement is for ‘at least five years’.
