Former grand prix driver Martin Donnelly thinks there are not enough small teams on the F1 grid.
The 42-year-old Irishman, who in 1990 survived an horror crash at Jerez when he was ejected from the drivers’ seat of his Lotus, is today a champion for the cause of up-and-coming racers.
Donnelly holds the title of ‘driver development manager’ for the World Series by Renault team Comtec, and remarked that formula one is a “victim of its own success”.
“The big teams leave very little of the cake for anyone else. F1 needs more teams who can give a chance to rising talents,” he told the magazine EUROSPORT MotorMagazin.
Donnelly raced 15 times in 1989 and 1990.
