Legal hurdle cleared for Donington

Jun.5 (GMM) The legal dispute between 2010 British GP venue Donington’s leaseholder and owner has been settled out of court

It emerged earlier this year that owner Tom Wheatcroft, who has leased the circuit long term to current operator Donington Ventures Leisure, is suing track CEO Simon Gillett for alleged unpaid rent

The action threatened the entire F1 project, for Wheatcroft had the power not only to thwart the planning approval for renovations, but also to completely repeal Gillett’s lease

The confidential settlement means that Monday’s scheduled court proceedings have been cancelled

“These positive developments, combined with the ongoing encouragement from … Bernie Ecclestone, demonstrates that (Donington) is committed to pushing forward with its 2009 racing plans and 2010 formula one preparations,” read a joint statement
