A new safety system for F1

A new safety system in formula one could be made mandatory for 2007, according to reports.

It is reported by ‘Motorsport Aktuell’ that the system, which illuminates safety lights in the cockpit of grand prix cars in various situations, was trialled at the recent Hockenheim race by both Scuderia Toro Rosso runners.

In a yellow or red flag situation, for example, respectively yellow and red-coloured lights would be illuminated for the F1 drivers to see.

Interestingly, the widespread use of the system might have prevented the situation at the Hungarian grand prix last weekend, where championship contenders Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso were penalised for ignoring marshal flags. gmmf1dailyf1news.com
