Alonso penalty ‘joke of year’

Flavio Briatore has branded Renault contender Fernando Alonso’s two-second qualifying penalty as the ‘joke of the year’.

”Soon we can just forget the championship,” the Italian fumed.

His comments coincided with a rant in the Italian media that, with the ‘mass damper’ saga, the FIA is artificially manipulating the outcome of the title fight.

But Red Bull ‘Friday’ tester Robert Doornbos, who was also called to the stewards’ room in Hungary to discuss the Alonso incident, branded the 25-year-old ‘excited’ and ’emotional’ after reports explained that Renault’s lead driver swerved and brake-tested him.

”You have seen the images for yourself,” the Dutchman told Speed TV. ”For me it’s a done deal. We shook hands in the briefing and I asked if he was ok.”gmmf1 dailyf1news.com
