While Jenson Button attended his first post-race press conference as a grand prix winner, his father John jubilantly greeted a swarm of reporters in the Hungaroring pit lane.

Honda’s Button said in the press conference that he was relieved that journalists can no longer condemn his record of more than 100 grands prix with no win.

”Like he has done many times, when he didn’t win,” John Button told ‘RTL’ television in Germany, ”Jenson drove beautifully.’

Button Snr admitted that the last ten laps were difficult to watch.

”We have had lots and lots of bad luck, but today everything ran perfectly. He drove well.”

26-year-old Button was due to fly almost immediately to Shanghai for a PR date, but – with the champagne flowing – his father explained that there might now be a change of plan.

”If my voice sounds funny it’s because I have been screaming so much,” Jenson beamed.
