Veteran of 28 grands prix and 13 points, former Toyota driver Cristiano da Matta, is still in a coma but ‘improving’ after his horror collision with a deer whilst testing his Champ Car earlier this month.
The American open-wheeler series’ doctor, Chris Pinderski, provided an update to the media on Wednesday, in which a statement explained that da Matta, 32, ‘has not yet fully regained consciousness’.
But he also said about the diminutive Brazilian: ”(da Matta) is becoming more alert each day.”
Indeed, a ventilator has been switched off and Pinderski reports that Cristiano may be soon moved out of intensive care at a hospital in Wisconsin (US).
