Eight out of F1’s eleven competing teams have already confirmed their attendance in Abu Dhabi for next Saturday’s event.

Involving formula one cars courtesy of probably every team, the inaugural festival is tipped to precede Bernie Ecclestone’s announcement of a grand prix in the emirate for 2009.

On Tuesday, the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) revealed that McLaren, Honda, Toyota, BMW-Sauber, Super Aguri, Toro Rosso, Spyker and Red Bull will definitely turn up.

Ferrari will undoubtedly also attend, as the Italian squad is part-owned and sponsored by the Abu Dhabi-owned Mubadala company.

Renault and Williams’ plans are not known, but the attendance of all teams was personally requested by Ecclestone this week.

“This is just the first raft of confirmations,” said the ADTA’s chairman Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nayhan.

Among F1’s drivers, world champion Fernando Alonso as well as Rubens Barrichello and Ralf Schumacher will also take part in the event.
