A group of formula one personnel were attacked at gunpoint when trying to drive from the Interlagos circuit to their hotel in Sao Paulo.
The carload of four media staff for the Toyota team managed to escape an attempting carjacking, but Toyota spokesperson Fernanda Villa-Boas de Mello admitted that they were ‘shocked’ to experience first hand the notorious street crime of the sprawling Brazilian city.
Villa-Boas de Mello told PA Sport in Sao Paulo: “They would not have known there were Toyota personnel inside the car as it has blacked-out windows.
“One person tried to kick in a window, and then there were shots fired. He didn’t want to shoot us, he just wanted to rob us.
“We eventually managed to pull away. Fortunately nobody was hurt.”
