The FIA’s World Motor Sport Council has approved a new marshalling system aimed at improving safety during the 2007 season.

The GPS system, to be used from the start of next season, will feature a cockpit light display of flag signals. The cockpit will compliment the usual marshals’ signals.

The system will enable the race director to see the exact location of all cars at all times.

It also will be able to communicate with the cars to illuminate cockpit lights (red, yellow and blue flags) and allow drivers to give a start abort signal if necessary.
