The president of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Joie Chitwood, says the venue is hoping to secure a longer-term deal for the US grand prix.

The fabled oval venue’s CEO, Tony George, explained last week that the unsigned Concorde Agreement for 2008 and beyond had precluded him from penning a new deal for more than one more race, but Chitwood insisted that the intention is ‘long term’.

He told ‘AP’: ”We wanted to do something (for 2007) done quickly first so we could communicate that to our customers.

”The landscape with F1 continues to be interesting, and we’re trying to make sure this is something we can get done.”
