Toro Rosso’s ‘Friday’ test driver in 2006, Neel Jani, will return to the race circuit this year.

The Champ Car team ‘PKV’ announced that, with a Red Bull livery and backing, the 23-year-old Swiss has been signed to contest the 2007 season in the American open-wheel series.

Red Bull initially reserved the seat for F1 refugee Christian Klien before the Austrian joined Honda as an official test driver.

“We are extremely fortunate to have the support of a company like Red Bull,” PKV co-owner Jimmy Vasser said.

Jani will start testing on Tuesday.

It also emerged late on Monday that former Toyota test driver Ryan Briscoe will in 2007 race a Penske-run Porsche in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS).
