Felipe Massa has vowed to help teammate and Ferrari ‘number one’ Michael Schumacher win the 2006 title.

The young Paulista, whose tenure at the red team is in doubt beyond the end of the season, told a German publication that his first loyalty is to Maranello-based Ferrari.

”We must cooperate as a team,” 25-year-old Massa is quoted as saying by Eurosport Automagazin.

”I owe it to Ferrari that I am in formula one, so therefore I give every effort for this team.”

Brazil’s Massa explains that, unlike some of his predecessors, he is able to cope with being beaten by seven time world champion Schumacher in grands prix.

”Some drivers cannot cope with being beaten by their teammate,” he explained, ”but for me it is just extra motivation.

”Of course I would rather be in front, but if I cannot then I simply must work harder.”
