Pedro de la Rosa hopes to keep his McLaren race seat beyond Sunday’s Hungarian grand prix.
The 35-year-old Spaniard, formerly the team’s primary test driver, moved into departed Juan Pablo Montoya’s car at Magny Cours.
He subsequently also raced at Hockenheim, but – with Gary Paffett and GP2 star Lewis Hamilton in the wings – is under pressure to perform as formula one heads into a three-week summer break prior to Turkey.
”I believe that I will still be here (in Turkey),” de la Rosa was quoted as telling the Spanish press on Friday morning, ”although in formula one you never know.
”It would be a shame if I did not go on for me.”
