A spokesman for Mercedes-Benz has contradicted rumours that German Norbert Haug could soon succeed Ron Dennis as boss of the McLaren team.

Amid speculation that the German carmaker is contemplating a full buyout of Dennis’ Woking based outfit, it was rumoured last week that Haug – head of Mercedes’ motor sport division – was the most logical team principal for a works Mercedes team.

But Kicker magazine quoted a spokesman as explaining that, buy-out or no buy-out, a change of order at the top of the McLaren-Mercedes hierarchy is unlikely.

”Ron Dennis is and will remain team principal,” the spokesman reportedly said.
